
CONSTITUTIONAL SPEECH CONTEST
(Formerly known as Oratorial Contest)
The purpose of The American Legion’s National High School Constitutional Speech Contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship.

The 2010 winner of the Nebraska High School Oratorical Contest held in Columbus, Nebraska on January 9, 2010 was Caitlin Molczyk from Columbus, 2nd place, Kelli Bowlin, Cody, NE and 3rd place went to Wyatt Troia of Omaha. Caitliln now advances to the National Oratorical Finals, held in Indianapolis, IN April 9-11th, 2010.

The 2009 winner of the National High School Oratorical Scholarship is Andrew Dykstal, a high-school senior from Lafayette, Indiana. He earned an $18,000.00 college scholarship for his winning oration, "A More Perfect Union."
2nd runner up was Caroline Heydinger of Battlesboro, VT, earning a $16,000.00 scholarship and 3rd place went to Werner Ferrone of Homosassa, Fl, with a $14,000.00 scholarship.
